Hmmm...roaming about here and there, what do I come across but this point of view (from a native Toronto resident) on a topic I have covered here before. You know the one, boys and girls. You don't? Let me refresh your memory then. Something about our crazy ass mayor's reaction to the movie Toronto, oops, I meant to say Chicago? Wait a sec. I got it right the first time. Because the damn movie wasn't actually shothere, now was it? Yes, I understand it's more cost effective to shoot in Toronto, thanks to the weak Canadian dollar and all the incentives and perks they offer to lure filmmakers there. And yes, I know Mayor Daley can be a complete and nutter who has uttered quotes much worse that calling Canada "overseas" for the native Chicagoan's entertainment. But as eccentric and crazy as he is, our mayor has the goddamn right to say whatever he feels about a disturbing trend which is taking away revenue from HIS city. "Toronto! The Musical" is one of many movies (including that monstrous N-Sync whatever the hell that was movie that was "supposedly based" in Chicago, yet showed a clear shot of the CNN Tower, and "Save the Last Dance for Me" which at least showed a shot of our skyline before pooching off to Canada) in a three year period that claim to be "Chicago" movies but were actually shot in Toronto. There are a lot of similiarities in both our fair cities, but what the movie industry is doing is the equivalent of people walking into McDonald's and ordering an order of ribs and some flapjacks to go. What makes "Chicago" so heinous is the fact that this piece of crap is SUPPOSED to be based on actual events that took place here in the 1920s. Did they film "The Untouchables" in Toronto? Hell no. How about "The Blues Brothers?" Nope, didn't think so. How about the movie "Fame?" I know they did a inferior remake that was clearly marked "Fame LA" but the movie itself was shot in NYC, and in NY it should stay, just like the movie "Serpico." Because to do otherwise would be like filming "Ferris Bueller's Day Off" in Grand Rapids, Michigan. Some things should just not be done. Just like native Toronto people are fiercely loyal to their fair city,(as they should be) we of the land of the mighty hawk, our beloved Sears Tower, fucked up winters, a crazy ass mayor, and the annual feast fest known as "The Taste" do NOT appreciate having our city whored or misrepresented on film. If you are going to film in Toronto, fine then, but don't make the storyline read "Chicago" because we know that's bullshit and we will NOT support it. I'm sure the fine Toronto people will love (as well as massively support) a movie where the storyline is based on Toronto's finer attractions. And I"ll be the first to go and enjoy it.

Stupid internet service has been constantly crashing, so I didn't come online much this week. As soon as I move, to the dsl dark side I will go. I think I'm beginning to get a bit like you, lol. Archer had to work at the Auto Show this year and needed people to help out so I volunteered beacause a) Archer was offering good scratch to do so and b) you get in for free. So I worked for 6 hours and walked about afterwards to check out all the cars. I"m not a big fan of new cars, but Nagi....they...*twitch* had Eleanor there.....*double twitch* and let me tell you, the bitch looked just as fine in person as she did in Gone in Sixty Seconds. The lady working the booth told me that they destroyed 6 or them to make that damn movie. Some things you should just go to hell for. But anyways, I fell in love with the VW Beetle Convertibles and the Minis, XD. ONe more thing to save for, after I get my imac. Next up: Next weekend, I'm going to capture screen shots from "Session 9" so I can start my Malkavian site.

I rang a friend of mine I hadn't heard from in a while. No particular reason...just wanted to check in, say hi. "How are you?" I asked. "Sitting here thanking God I didn't go out last night." she replied. "Haven't you watched any TV today?" I turn on the sqawk box. and I see this. 21 soulfires. Going, going, gone before their time. And for what? Because someone decided to use mace on what was basically a bitch fight? For people losing their calm? For emergency exits being blocked so there was one way to get out? For club promoters ignoring a court order to keep the club closed until they fixed violations? Who is to blame for something of this magnitude? Because whichever way you slice it, it's all the same. 21 soul fires. Going, going, gone. ;_;

Well, well well....so I didn't come back and post like I said I would, but Ronin surprised me on Valentine's Day and we went out, (where I had a super-trooper-mega-happy-splendid-fucking time for 2 days) so you'll just have to forgive me, now won't you? Hmmm...now why did I come here...oh YEAH! *COUGH* *WHEEZE* GO. NOW.

Went to Kupo's school and gave all of his teachers and guidance counselor gifts (to show my appreciation for all they do year-round), and now that I sit at home (sealed tastefully with colored plastic and duct tape, of course) wearing my anti-biological cootie hat I made out of some tinfoil, I wanted to say: Hey everybody, Happy Valentine's Day! ^^ You know what? It shouldn't be called Valentines Day. It should be called "National Get A Piece of Ass" Day (otherwise known as NGAPOP!) or National Booty Day.....or National "I got my ass kicked by my lady and am now sleeping outside with the dog because I forget about the holdiay when all the crap has been staring me in the face all week" day. (btw ladies, don't be tacky. Don't expect $100+ gifts when all you got him was a card) I'm not greedy. I'm not demanding someone worship my with trinklets in the little blue box. I just want some Philosophy products and Pucca goodies, dammit! More updates and Social Blogging tonight, since I get mah V-Day tomorrow! ^^ Hopefully with Pucca and Philosophy treats. Especially that "Gingerbread Man" Body scrub. and the "Message in a Bottle" bath and body goods. Oops....do I sound....greedy?

A weird thing happened the Saturday after I finished the "Billie" layout. Ronin came by as usual, and we were driving Kupo to his Saturday group thingie when I was hearing some do-wop on the radio. I turned it up, and it was the Lady herself singing. Turns out that the radio station was doing a whole special on Billie Holiday all weekend. I laughed and when we got back to the house showed him the layout. It's weird, he generally doesn't have time to look at my site. Or listen to blues. But yet there it was...a weird sense of synchronicity between us. *happy sigh* Of course Kupo was happy. I don't know if it's a case of kids not liking what their parents listen to or what, but he definitely prefers folk and swing music to anything fast-paced. I've busted his ass in the bathroom with a towel on his head singing Frank Sinatra's "My Way." and since I laughed so hard and told everyone I knew about it he won't do it anymore. He tends to like music more slow paced, lots of world music, and Tracy Chapman, and when he was younger, he was frightened of the way Annie Lennox of the Eurythmics looked but loved her voice. Now that I think about it, he really likes songs where the people can actually sing, with the exception of The Smiths. I used to play "The Love Cats" and chase him around the house and tickle him when he was younger....*sigh* I guess I'm in a really nostalgic mood tonight. Been thinking about the fact that my baby is going to be leave childhood this year. Dammit, where the HELL does the years go. When I was a kid, time didn't move this fast. A school year took for fucking ever to pass, while you could blink and summer vacation would be over. Now it seems like the years are speeding by faster and faster. I always thought it sounded like a cliche when people used to always tell me how much I've grown and I never understood it. Now I do.

Wintertime in Metropolis has a certain...schizoid quality. First it's warm, then its cold...oh look, it's warm again! Right now, Im freezing and it's about 5 degrees out, but watch, tomorrow it'll be back up to 40 degrees. I fully expect to catch a cold or something worse before the season is over with. For those of you who asked, no, my new job is NOT with the fabalous Bouncy at the Publishing Company. When I called last week, she told me that after the last time I called, apparently they had to lay off a crapload of people in the Orlando office and they were currently in the midst of a hiring freeze. I'm like okay, but I wish she had called me to let me know WTH was going on, so I'm like, whatever. Right now I'm counting that one out because I've seen hiring freezes go on for years. ;_;. Im just happy to have something that starts on the 17th. My Mom is such a riot...she's currently learning Spanish and refuses to talk to any of us in English anymore, lol. One of the things I like best about her is that she's never afraid to try new things. She went to see Gran Today (who is STILL in the hospital) and she's doing better, but to be honest, I'd be surprised if she makes it through the year, but then again, she's a fighter. And speaking of fighters, I hope Strawberry Shortcake's father has a speedy recovery, that Mag continues to enjoy life, and Little Sister finds the perfect car! Oh yeah...Baby Sister, sometimes them's the breaks....and as much as you want to tell someone that someoen in their life is negative or they need to get some things in porportion, there are some things they have to learn for themselves.

New layout, featuring the Lady Day herself, Billie Holiday! XD Added some new links of people whom I read on a semi-regular basis and always wanted to link, but never got around to it. It's weird how some people get frantic about linking, want you to link them back, get mad when you won't, etc. I link those that I read, whether I know the person or not, and if they don't want to link me, well, I don't care. I haven't had a problem with anyone NOT wanting me to link them, but if they did, there's my email to contact me. *shrugs* Hospital called today, wanting to give Gran a blood transfusion. I let Mom handle that one. It's not even her doctor who wants to give it to her, but another doctor. A blood transfusion to "build" up her blood? WTF? And speaking of WTF, I don't know whether or not this job is going to work out or not, all I can do is try. Supposely it's supposed to be an administrative position with design and marketing and PR mixed in, but if it's heavy on the "administrative" and light on the other three, I might have to start looking again. Not to say that I want to be doing purely design, because after a while that gets old, but if it turns out that all I am is a glorified secretary, um...nope. Also, my best friend told me about the gig in the first place...and the boss is one of his "friends with benefits." Except he really, really cares about this one. Now I know we're all adults here, but I see "potential land bomb" written all over this, so I have to be damn careful. Also, Archer kinda pissed me off last night when we started talking about design and apparently he's been talking to some people who are self-taught and freelancing (not even in our market) to see what is "my problem" re: job situation. First of all, Metropolis has closed down a lot of shops here, either consolidating in the NY area or shutting down completely, and that our studios, PR, and Advertising shops have been paticularly hard hit due to 9-11 and the recession. But I suppose they would know that already, being "self taught." -_-. But I didn't go there with him, I merely stated that just because someone is in the field doesn't mean they know jack shit...when the BF used to work at a print shop, we used to talk about the nightmare people who didn't know how to set up a simple file for print. They would do dumb shit like make files RGB (instead of CMYK) forget fonts for Quark and a million other stupid mistakes that costs companies money. Whatever. But anyways, the money is sweet, I start Monday, and I'm pretty excited about it. Whoo-hoo!

As of this Friday, i r no longer an unemployed bum! Hurray! On a much sadder note, Grandmere went back in hospital, this time in much worse condition. It's seriously looking like I'm going to lose both grandparents this year. Mom and I are steering ourselves for the worse. And The Princess? As usual, she is too self-absorbed to notice anyone or anything else. It must be very nice to be....that self-centered at times. Not. How the hell we have the same Mom but yet came out so completely diffrent, the world may never know. Anyways, on the online stuffies: It's nice to recycle, and pretty gothy peoples make me smile. Someone, quick, send out a search party I think she got abducted in the tattoo parlor, and Simple and Clean does the trick.
